FOR THE NORTH ATLANTIC...CARIBBEAN SEA AND THE GULF OF MEXICO...
THE NATIONAL HURRICANE CENTER IS ISSUING ADVISORIES ON TROPICAL
STORM HERMINE...LOCATED INLAND ABOUT 50 MILES WEST OF CORPUS CHRISTI
TEXAS.
CLOUDINESS AND SHOWERS OVER THE LEEWARD ISLANDS AND THE NORTHEASTERN
CARIBBEAN SEA ARE ASSOCIATED WITH THE REMNANTS OF GASTON.  THIS
SYSTEM IS EXPECTED TO CONTINUE WESTWARD AT 15 TO 20 MPH WITH NO
SIGNIFICANT DEVELOPMENT DURING THE NEXT COUPLE OF DAYS.
THERE IS A LOW CHANCE...10 PERCENT...OF THIS SYSTEM BECOMING A
TROPICAL CYCLONE AGAIN DURING THE NEXT 48 HOURS.  
A WEAK AREA OF LOW PRESSURE LOCATED ABOUT 350 MILES WEST OF THE
NORTHERNMOST CAPE VERDE ISLANDS IS PRODUCING DISORGANIZED CLOUDINESS
AND SHOWERS.  ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS ARE EXPECTED TO REMAIN
UNFAVORABLE FOR DEVELOPMENT DURING THE NEXT COUPLE OF DAYS AS THE
LOW MOVES WESTWARD NEAR 10 MPH.  THERE IS A LOW CHANCE...10
PERCENT...OF THIS SYSTEM BECOMING A TROPICAL CYCLONE DURING THE
NEXT 48 HOURS.
SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS LOCATED BETWEEN THE CAPE VERDE ISLANDS AND
THE WEST COAST OF AFRICA ARE ASSOCIATED WITH A TROPICAL WAVE. 
DEVELOPMENT...IF ANY...OF THIS SYSTEM IS EXPECTED TO BE SLOW TO
OCCUR AS IT MOVES WESTWARD AT 10 TO 15 MPH DURING THE NEXT COUPLE
OF DAYS.  THERE IS A LOW CHANCE...10 PERCENT...OF THIS SYSTEM

MIDWEEK RED TIDE UPDATE (March 3) 

No new water samples have been received this week from the east coast of Florida.

No Karenia brevis, the Florida red tide organism, was detected in water samples collected late last week offshore of Citrus County in northwest Florida.

In southwest Florida, no Karenia brevis was detected in water samples collected early this week alongshore of Sarasota and Collier counties. Samples collected late last week north of the Florida Keys (Monroe County) also contained no K. brevis. Sampling will continue this week and complete results will be available in the next scheduled status report on Friday, March 6.

REGIONAL RED TIDE SUMMARIES (February 27)
East Region:  No Karenia brevis, the Florida red tide organism, was detected this week in a single water sample collected from the Indian River Lagoon (Brevard County). Additional offshore samples collected east of Martin County also contained no K. brevis.
Northwest Region:  No Karenia brevis, the Florida red tide organism, was detected this week in a single water sample collected alongshore Escambia County. Additional offshore samples collected south of Escambia, Okaloosa and Walton counties also contained no K. brevis.
Southwest Region:  No Karenia brevis, the Florida red tide organism, was detected this week in water samples collected alongshore between Pinellas and Collier counties. Background concentrations of K. brevis were detected in a single sample collected alongshore of the Huston River inside of the Everglades National Park (Monroe County). Additional offshore samples collected west of Lee and Monroe counties also contained no K. brevis.

The FWRI Red Tide Status Line is now available to callers to hear a recording detailing red tide conditions throughout the state. FWRI updates the recording each Friday by 5 p.m. after sampling efforts for the week have been completed and analyzed.
