National Hurricane CenterABNT20 KNHC 061158 TWOAT SPECIAL TROPICAL WEATHER OUTLOOK NWS NATIONAL HURRICANE CENTER MIAMI FL 700 AM EST MON FEB 6 2012 FOR THE NORTH ATLANTIC...CARIBBEAN SEA AND THE GULF OF MEXICO... A BROAD AREA OF LOW PRESSURE EXTENDING FROM WESTERN CUBA NORTHWARD INTO THE FLORIDA STRAITS IS INTERACTING WITH A MID TO UPPER-LEVEL TROUGH. WHILE THIS SYSTEM IS PRODUCING A LARGE AREA OF SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS...THERE ARE NO SIGNS OF AN ORGANIZED SURFACE CIRCULATION AND UPPER-LEVEL WINDS ARE EXPECTED TO BECOME LESS FAVORABLE FOR SUBTROPICAL CYCLONE FORMATION DURING THE DAY TODAY. THIS SYSTEM HAS A LOW CHANCE...NEAR 0 PERCENT...OF BECOMING A SUBTROPICAL CYCLONE DURING THE NEXT 48 HOURS. MIDWEEK RED TIDE UPDATE (March 3) No new water samples have been received this week from the east coast of Florida. No Karenia brevis, the Florida red tide organism, was detected in water samples collected late last week offshore of Citrus County in northwest Florida. In southwest Florida, no Karenia brevis was detected in water samples collected early this week alongshore of Sarasota and Collier counties. Samples collected late last week north of the Florida Keys (Monroe County) also contained no K. brevis. Sampling will continue this week and complete results will be available in the next scheduled status report on Friday, March 6. REGIONAL RED TIDE SUMMARIES (February 27)East Region: No Karenia brevis, the Florida red tide organism, was detected this week in a single water sample collected from the Indian River Lagoon (Brevard County). Additional offshore samples collected east of Martin County also contained no K. brevis. The FWRI Red Tide Status Line is now available to callers to hear a recording detailing red tide conditions throughout the state. FWRI updates the recording each Friday by 5 p.m. after sampling efforts for the week have been completed and analyzed.
