FOR THE NORTH ATLANTIC...CARIBBEAN SEA AND THE GULF OF MEXICO...
THE NATIONAL HURRICANE CENTER IS ISSUING ADVISORIES ON TROPICAL
STORM NANA...LOCATED ABOUT 1015 MILES WEST OF THE CAPE VERDE
ISLANDS.
SATELLITE IMAGES AND SURFACE OBSERVATIONS INDICATE THAT A TROPICAL
DEPRESSION COULD BE FORMING IN THE EASTERN CARIBBEAN SEA ABOUT 275
MILES SOUTH OF THE EASTERN TIP OF THE DOMINICAN REPUBLIC AND IF
THIS TREND CONTINUES...ADVISORIES WILL BE INITIATED LATER TODAY.  
AN AIR FORCE RESERVE UNIT RECONNAISSANCE AIRCRAFT IS SCHEDULED TO
INVESTIGATE THE AREA THIS AFTERNOON. THIS SYSTEM IS ACCOMPANIED BY
GUSTY WINDS AND A LARGE AREA OF HEAVY RAINS WHICH COULD PRODUCE
LIFE THREATENING FLASH FLOODS AND MUDSLIDES. THESE CONDITIONS ARE

REGIONAL RED TIDE SUMMARIES (October 10, 2008) East Region: No Karenia brevis, the Florida red tide organism, was detected this week in water samples collected from the Mosquito Lagoon and the Indian River Lagoon (Brevard County).

Northwest Region: No Karenia brevis, the Florida red tide organism, was detected this week in water samples collected alongshore from Santa Rosa to Bay counties. Additional water samples offshore of Escambia County were also free of K. brevis.

Southwest Region: Low concentrations of Karenia brevis, the Florida red tide organism, were detected this week in water samples collected along Captiva Island (Lee County). No impacts have been reported. In Sarasota County, background concentrations of K. brevis were detected near New Pass. All other water samples collected alongshore from Pinellas and Charlotte counties contained no K. brevis. A research cruise currently being conducted has found no K. brevis offshore from Manatee to southern Charlotte counties. However, they have found medium concentrations of K. brevis in Lee County off and alongshore of Cayo Costa State Park.

The FWRI Red Tide Status Line is now available to callers to hear a recording detailing red tide conditions throughout the state. FWRI updates the recording each Friday by 5 p.m. after sampling efforts for the week have been completed and analyzed. Interruption of service for new Raster Navigational Charts and RNC updates

NOAA provides free, Raster Navigational Charts (RNCs) and free weekly RNC updates via the NOAA web site and through certified redistributors. For a limited period beginning June 15, 2008, RNCs will not be updated for either Notices to Mariners or for new editions of the nautical charts. This temporary interruption of service is due to a change in RNC production systems. Full RNC service will resume when reliable production is restored. In the interim, continuously updated NOAA Print on Demand charts (not free), traditional printed charts, and free Electronic Navigational Charts and updates (http://nauticalcharts.noaa.gov/mcd/enc/index.htm) will continue to be available.
